Washington Watch: BookTV Afterwords- Carlos Lozada Interviewing David Frum: Trumpocracy & The State of Western Democracy

Source: This piece was originally posted at The New Democrat

Maybe Trumpocracy is another way of talking about the new highly rated Washington reality TV show known as The White House, with Donald Trump. I say highly rated and not highly successful, because it’s not successful at least as far as far as how the American people think of it. Anytime 3-5 voters don’t like the politician that is supposed to represent them whatever the office is, that politician is not doing well. 3-5 Americans don’t like the job that President Trump is doing, don’t like him personally, and don’t trust him. He’s in Richard Nixon territory as far as how unpopular he is with the American people. But his new show and perhaps Amateur Night at The White House, would be a better name for President Trump’s latest reality TV show, is highly rated.

You can’t just look at Donald Trump by only looking at one aspect of him. You have to look at the narcissistic selfish gigantic sized personality. You have to look at his governing style, which he doesn’t seem to have at least from the outside looking in. You have to look at his policies. You have to look at his supporters which at this point are only little more than a third of the electorate, but were enough to at least get him the Republican nomination for President. And then you have to look to his appeasement of those voters. The salesmanship to be kind, the con game would be more accurate in how he appeals to blue-collar fundamentalist Christian voters especially in the Republican Party, but ins some cases in the upper Midwest the Democratic Party as well.

In 2016 we saw the John Birch Society/George Wallace/Ann Coulter/Pat Buchanan right-wing populist ethno-Tribalist-Nationalist presidential candidate, but with a personality, as well as great sense of humor and even likable at times in Donald Trump. And yes, Donald Trump is a very funny man ( even intentionally ) and even likable when he’s in small spaces and groups. This is a political faction in America that has been around since World War I at least in America that views conspiracy theories as real news like Vice President Lyndon Johnson ordering the assassination of President John Kennedy. And real news as fake and establishment news. Who don’t trust institutions especially non-partisan institutions like the CIA and FBI, simply because they can’t be controlled by partisans. And operate independently even from the President.

I view Donald Trump as wannabe dictator who picked the last country in the world to try to become a dictator in the United States of America. Sort of like a village idiot who tries to rob a bank with just a leaky water gun at 12 noon on a Monday and wonders what went wrong and how come people were just laughing at him instead of giving him their money.

President Trump knows he can’t shut down the private media because we have a guaranteed free press and his administration simply wouldn’t allow for him to even try that. So he calls them fake news at least when they report negative facts about him. Which is most of the time. He says his entire intelligence community is wrong when they say that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election. He accuses people that he personally appointed as being disloyal and part of the establishment when they don’t shut down the Russia investigation and even expand it when new facts and evidence come to light about the Trump Campaign’s involvement with Russia during the 2016 election. Because he’s smart enough to know he can’t control these investigations and what Congress does by himself. So he instead attempts to make them look corrupt. He’s a wannabe dictator in the wrong country and doesn’t like accountability and limited power.

In some ways Donald Trump is the worst nightmare and horror movie coming to real life and part of that is because he’s now the President of the United States. Literally the most powerful and most important country in the world, the greatest country in the world as far as how powerful and influential in the world. But part of why we’re so strong, powerful, and great, is because of our checks and balances, our accountability. Which was designed in case someone like Donald Trump ever became President. The reason why we’ve been able to avoid nationalist populist authoritarians from coming to power in America and why countries like Russia, Poland, Venezuela, haven’t, is because of our checks and balances. And is something that Donald Trump is learning the hard way.

If you’re familiar with apartheid in South Africa where the Dutch South African Government, tried to separate the Dutch and other European-South Africans from the native South African population like the Zulu’s and other native Africans in South Africa, then I believe you at least have a vert good idea about what Jim Crow was and what Jim Crow laws are. The forced separating of the races simply because they’re of different race. Which as a non-constitutional lawyer and even a non-lawyer in any sense, looks on it’s face at least to me as unconstitutional. Under the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

I blogged the last two weeks which now feels like months at this point because I was basically blogging about one man and his presidency in Woodrow Wilson. ( Not to get to personal ) And I blogged about the plusses and the minuses of the Woodrow Wilson Administration. Jim Crow is part of the minuses. I mean, how stupid and ignorant can you possibly be as a human being as someone who doesn’t have any at least known mental defects that you would not only believe that the races should be separated because of their race, but that should be put into law by force. That people should have to be serrated simply because they have different complexions, hair, facial features, etc. But that is exactly what Jim Crow was which was both ignorant and stupid.

The reason why we got Jim Crow was because the Confederate States lost the Civil War. It’s really that simple and was a response and reaction to losing the Civil War. The South now knowing they can no longer actually own other human beings with slavery being wiped out and responded by saying that if they can no longer treat Africans as animals literally like farmers who own horses and cattle, that they would instead treat Africans as second-class citizens in America. And deny them their constitutional rights that all Americans are entitled to simply because they’re American citizens . That is exactly what Jim Crow was and there really isn’t nice way of putting this without being truthful and honest.

Learn Out Loud: American Presidents Series- President Woodrow Wilson Biography

Source: Learn Out Loud: American Presidents Series- President Woodrow Wilson Biography

As I’ve blogged before I have mixed feelings about President Woodrow Wilson. Similar to how I feel about President Richard Nixon and President Ronald Reagan, President Lyndon Johnson as well.

One one side you have this brilliant foreign policy leader and President who literally is the father of the liberal internationalist doctrine. That was the American foreign policy with each President making their own amendments to that doctrine especially President George W. Bush who was a Neoconservative, that was about defending liberal democracy at home and abroad. Working with our allies to defend, protect, and promote liberal democracy and prosperity around the world. Work with friendly developing countries to promote and defend democracy and prosperity in those countries through foreign aide. President Wilson’s liberal internationalist doctrine, was the foreign policy doctrine of the Democratic Party all the way though President Barack Obama’s presidency.

And then on the economic front you have a pretty Progressive President in Woodrow Wilson. He expanded the regulatory state that was created by President Theodore Roosevelt with the creation of the Federal Reserve and creation of the national progressive income tax. He supported tariffs on foreign goods. He supported workers rights and even organized labor. He was in favor of creating public Unemployment Insurance that President Teddy Roosevelt first proposed as President, but like President Roosevelt President Wilson failed to get Unemployment Insurance through Congress.

But then you had this other side of Woodrow Wilson who along with being the father of America’s liberal internationalist foreign policy doctrine, President Wilson was also one of the father’s of Jim Crow laws and segregation among the races both in the public and private sectors. President Wilson had given life to the Southern Dixiecrat segregationist Neo-Confederate Governor’s in the South who didn’t see African-Americans has American citizens and perhaps even as human beings. And wanted them segregated from European-Americans through force. Who were in bed politically with the Ku Klux Klan and wouldn’t prosecute from for their terrorism against African and Jewish-Americans, As well as other racial and ethnic minorities in America.

You get Jim Crow and the segregationist policies out of the Woodrow Wilson Presidency and had he been successful in getting the League of Nations passed in Congress through the Senate and we’re talking about one of our greatest American president’s instead of being in the 20s of wherever he’s ranked but certainly in the middle of the pack. But you can’t get Jim Crow out of the Wilson Presidency, just like you can’t get Watergate out of the Richard Nixon Presidency. Because of the lasting horrible legacy of Jim Crow that went all the way through the 1960s in America. That alone could make a good argument for President Wilson not being a mediocre President, but one of our worst ever.

Woodrow Wilson is a mix bag to me, because he is the father of American liberal internationalism. This idea that America should always be strong and fight authoritarianism around the world ( even if we promote it at home ) and work with our allies around the world to defend liberal democracy and fight against authoritarianism. Whether its communism, or religious theocracy, monarchy, nationalism, whatever the authoritarian philosophy might be. Which has been the governing foreign policy inside the Democratic Party going all the way though the Barack Obama Administration. George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign might be the only exception to this. So on this score I give President Woodrow Wilson very high marks.

President Woodrow Wilson was also an economic Progressive. He believed in things like a public safety net things like Unemployment Insurance for people who are unemployed. That every America ( at least European-Americans ) should have an opportunity to succeed in America. He believed in a regulatory state not to run private industry, but to protect employees and consumers from predators in the economy. Perhaps not as progressive as Theodore Roosevelt ( but most American politicians weren’t back then ) but an economic Progressive. Even though he was very regressive when it came to race relations and promoted segregation and separating African-Americans from European-Americans.

But if you want to know why we had segregation and Jim Crow laws in the 1920s and going all the way up to the mid-1960s, look no further than President Woodrow Wilson and his administration of the 19 teens. Where President Wilson even segregated the races in the Federal Government. And not allowing African-Americans to get good Federal jobs simply because of their race. Which gave life to Dixiecrats and Dixiecrat governors in the South, as well as local government’s own there to pass their own segregation laws.

Southern predominately Anglo-Saxon European-Americans, knew they lost the Civil War and that slavery would no longer be tolerated. But there’s that old saying that the Confederates lost the Civil War but won the battles and the reconstruction. Jim Crow laws were Confederates chance at revenge. Acknowledging that slavery was history but that since Africans would no longer be slaves for anyone in America, that instead they would be treated like second-class citizens in America and in some cases not even be treated like American citizens at all. Be treated like criminals, terrorists, and even animals, by Southern racists. And Jim Crow laws and segregation, is obviously a huge part of the negative legacy of President Woodrow Wilson. Just like Watergate is a big part of President Richard Nixon’s negative legacy.

Michael Vermeylen: Hollywood Communists- Hollywood on Trial

My whole problem and issue with the so-called Communists in Hollywood investigation that Congress investigated in the 1940s first in the House and later in the Senate in the 1950s, is that it was hypocritical and violated most of the individual rights that Americans love and cherish and that so-called Conservatives back then said they cherished as well which was our individualism, free expression, free speech, free assembly, the right for Americans to believe what they want and to practice their own politics as they please. Whether they were Far-Left Communists and Socialists that believed America was the real Evil Empire and Russia as misunderstood. Or Far-Right Neo-Confederate Nationalists who saw African-Americans and other non-Europeans as animals.

You had these Far-Right Republicans in the House of Representatives especially, who saw even the belief in communism and people having communists beliefs as some threat to American and Western civilization, that even having Communists in America at all even as private citizens with no foreign government connections and people who just had communist beliefs, would somehow destroy America. And saw Communist Americans who again only had those political beliefs as people who don’t have the same constitutional and individual rights as people who believe African-Americans aren’t real Americans and therefor underserving of the same rights as European-Americans. You literally had right-wing racists believing that Communists who weren’t bigots, weren’t real Americans and therefor should be put in jail simply for their political beliefs.

You have political correctness on the Far-Left and some of that comes from Communists or people with communist leanings at least who believe they know best how every American should think and what they should believe. And believe any humor and criticism of racial and ethnic, as well as religious minorities is bigoted and therefore should be censored even though law even if the humor and criticism is accurate. But you also have political correctness on the Far-Right in America coming from the Christian-Right as well as Nationalist-Right or Alt-Right, who believe they the real Americans because of what they think and how they live and believe anyone who looks at the world differently are Un-American and therefor do not deserve the same rights as these supposed real Americans. And the so-called House Un-American Activities Committee was a big part of that.

The only Un-American thing about HUAC ( House Un-American Activities Committee) was the committee itself. They should’ve been investigating themselves for being Un-American. The House should have created another select committee to investigate the Un-American activities of UUAC. Because in America we have a guaranteed right to free speech under the First Amendment. That cover the freedom to practice any religion or no religion at all. The right to believe what we want, to associate with who we want short of known criminals, and the right to say what we want short of falsely libeling people or harassing people, inciting violence. And the so-called HUAC committee violated most if not all of our First Amendment rights and should have never been put together.

Progressing America: Theodore Roosevelt- The New Nationalism

Attachment-1-1375

Source: IZ Quotes

What Theodore Roosevelt was advocating for in what he called The New Nationalism, was what became The New Deal in the 1930s. Which is what became the American safety net. Progressives don’t believe in blowing up capitalism, they simply want to make it better so it benefits more Americans. Unlike Socialist presidential candidate Eugene Debbs who also ran for President in 1912 and Senator Bernie Sanders and other Socialists (whether they call themselves Socialists or not) today.

Teddy Roosevelt’s New Nationalism was the political platform that he and his Progressive Party ran on in 1912.

Unemployment Insurance for American workers who are unemployed.

A minimum wage for all workers.

A national pension system for all workers that they could collect from when they retire.

A national health care program that would cover both health care and health insurance for Americans.

Most of these proposed programs became part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal agenda in the 1930s. Pre-safety net in America if Americans fell on hard times, they either had to take care of their problems themselves, or get friends or family to help them out, or rely on private charity. If they still couldn’t get their issues taken care of, then they were essentially screwed, or out of luck. (If you want a softer term)

What became the New Deal in the 1930s and then later the Great Society in 1960s, did was to guarantee financial help and assistance for any American who fell on hard times and needed financial assistance in form form. Neither Teddy or Frank Roosevelt, wanted to blow up the American capitalist system and replace it with a socialist system. But instead make American capitalism better and make it work for more Americans.

This History Channel: Ku Klux Klan- A Secret History

attachment-1-18

Source: The History Channel: Ku Klux Klan- A Secret History

I’m not writing this to link Donald Trump and his presidential campaign with the KKK. Mr. Trump a man who I don’t like and don’t have much if any respect for other than how he raised his family and loves his children and raise successful kids, but ran a presidential campaign in a way that I hate to the point that he helped to make right-wing nationalism and bigotry, somewhat mainstream. Even though most Americans hate bigotry whether it comes from the Far-Right, or Far-Left, but I don’t see this man as a racist. But a real percentage of his supporters whether we’re talking about 5-10% of them, more or less, are racists and bigots towards all non-Anglo-Saxon-Protestant-Caucasians and even women of all backgrounds, are racists and bigots and even terrorists. Or in David Duke’s case an ex-terrorist with the KKK.

If there’s any good thing about a Donald Trump presidency, is that we’ll get to learn more about the Alt-Right which is a hip way of describing the nationalist Caucasian Far-Right in America, including the KKK. An organization that believes America belongs to Anglo-Saxon Protestant Europeans, even though they’re ancestors kidnapped millions of Africans hundreds of years ago to use them as slaves in America. And they see non-Protestants and people with dark skin, as invaders and Un-American and people who’ve invaded their country. And believe they’re under attack by minorities even Caucasians who aren’t Protestant and Anglo, like Jews, Italians and Slavs and believe they have the right to kill these people.

Some people might say they’re isn’t any real definition of terrorism, that is something that you know when you see it, like pornography that you know it when you see it. Perhaps the only thing that terrorism and pornography have in common. But actually that is not true, because an act  of terrorism is the intentional destruction and murder of a mass group of people. Setting off a bomb in a public space knowing that if you’re bomb goes off it will hurt and probably kill a lot of people. We see that type of terrorism all the time in the Middle East. Especially in Israel, but now in Iraq and Syria as well. The Irish Republican Army, was an Irish-Nationalist terrorist group that believe in uniting North Ireland which is still part of Britain, with the Irish Republic in the South. And they’re murdered thousands if not millions of English non-nationalist Irish who oppose uniting both Ireland’s.

That is what the Ku Klux Klan is about except their terrorism is about bigotry. Racial, ethnic and religious hatred, of non-Anglo-Saxon Protestants. And like with ISIS and other so-called Islamic terrorist groups, they self-define their activities under  a religion which is Protestant-Christianity. Except like with ISIS and other Islamic terrorist groups, their terrorism has nothing to do with the religion they claim to represent. There’s nothing Christian about killing people simply because of their race, ethnicity or religion. That is why the FBI has essentially destroyed the KKK almost by themselves, at least their military wing. Because the KKK is responsible for the murders of thousands if not millions of African, Jewish and other Americans, who come from a different racial, ethnic and religious background as the KKK.

The KKK is the oldest as most successful terrorist organization in the United States as far as the number of murders and other acts of terrorism that they’re responsible for. And they’ve let to other European-American terrorist organizations like the Aryan Nation, Neo-Nazis and other Alt-Right groups. The Black Panthers, the Communist Party and other Far-Left groups have nothing on the KKK when it comes to hate, murder and terrorism. The KKK is responsible for more murders and terrorism than ISIS simply because the KKK has been around a lot longer. If ISIS is still in business a hundred years from now, that could change. And Americans need to know this if the Trump Administration is going to have any real connections with Alt-Right groups in the future.
