Washington Watch: BookTV Afterwords- Carlos Lozada Interviewing David Frum: Trumpocracy & The State of Western Democracy

Maybe Trumpocracy is another way of talking about the new highly rated Washington reality TV show known as The White House, with Donald Trump. I say highly rated and not highly successful, because it’s not successful at least as far as far as how the American people think of it. Anytime 3-5 voters don’t like the politician that is supposed to represent them whatever the office is, that politician is not doing well. 3-5 Americans don’t like the job that President Trump is doing, don’t like him personally, and don’t trust him. He’s in Richard Nixon territory as far as how unpopular he is with the American people. But his new show and perhaps Amateur Night at The White House, would be a better name for President Trump’s latest reality TV show, is highly rated.

You can’t just look at Donald Trump by only looking at one aspect of him. You have to look at the narcissistic selfish gigantic sized personality. You have to look at his governing style, which he doesn’t seem to have at least from the outside looking in. You have to look at his policies. You have to look at his supporters which at this point are only little more than a third of the electorate, but were enough to at least get him the Republican nomination for President. And then you have to look to his appeasement of those voters. The salesmanship to be kind, the con game would be more accurate in how he appeals to blue-collar fundamentalist Christian voters especially in the Republican Party, but ins some cases in the upper Midwest the Democratic Party as well.

In 2016 we saw the John Birch Society/George Wallace/Ann Coulter/Pat Buchanan right-wing populist ethno-Tribalist-Nationalist presidential candidate, but with a personality, as well as great sense of humor and even likable at times in Donald Trump. And yes, Donald Trump is a very funny man ( even intentionally ) and even likable when he’s in small spaces and groups. This is a political faction in America that has been around since World War I at least in America that views conspiracy theories as real news like Vice President Lyndon Johnson ordering the assassination of President John Kennedy. And real news as fake and establishment news. Who don’t trust institutions especially non-partisan institutions like the CIA and FBI, simply because they can’t be controlled by partisans. And operate independently even from the President.

I view Donald Trump as wannabe dictator who picked the last country in the world to try to become a dictator in the United States of America. Sort of like a village idiot who tries to rob a bank with just a leaky water gun at 12 noon on a Monday and wonders what went wrong and how come people were just laughing at him instead of giving him their money.

President Trump knows he can’t shut down the private media because we have a guaranteed free press and his administration simply wouldn’t allow for him to even try that. So he calls them fake news at least when they report negative facts about him. Which is most of the time. He says his entire intelligence community is wrong when they say that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election. He accuses people that he personally appointed as being disloyal and part of the establishment when they don’t shut down the Russia investigation and even expand it when new facts and evidence come to light about the Trump Campaign’s involvement with Russia during the 2016 election. Because he’s smart enough to know he can’t control these investigations and what Congress does by himself. So he instead attempts to make them look corrupt. He’s a wannabe dictator in the wrong country and doesn’t like accountability and limited power.

In some ways Donald Trump is the worst nightmare and horror movie coming to real life and part of that is because he’s now the President of the United States. Literally the most powerful and most important country in the world, the greatest country in the world as far as how powerful and influential in the world. But part of why we’re so strong, powerful, and great, is because of our checks and balances, our accountability. Which was designed in case someone like Donald Trump ever became President. The reason why we’ve been able to avoid nationalist populist authoritarians from coming to power in America and why countries like Russia, Poland, Venezuela, haven’t, is because of our checks and balances. And is something that Donald Trump is learning the hard way.

I’m not writing this to link Donald Trump and his presidential campaign with the KKK. Mr. Trump a man who I don’t like and don’t have much if any respect for other than how he raised his family and loves his children and raise successful kids, but ran a presidential campaign in a way that I hate to the point that he helped to make right-wing nationalism and bigotry, somewhat mainstream. Even though most Americans hate bigotry whether it comes from the Far-Right, or Far-Left, but I don’t see this man as a racist. But a real percentage of his supporters whether we’re talking about 5-10% of them, more or less, are racists and bigots towards all non-Anglo-Saxon-Protestant-Caucasians and even women of all backgrounds, are racists and bigots and even terrorists. Or in David Duke’s case an ex-terrorist with the KKK.

If there’s any good thing about a Donald Trump presidency, is that we’ll get to learn more about the Alt-Right which is a hip way of describing the nationalist Caucasian Far-Right in America, including the KKK. An organization that believes America belongs to Anglo-Saxon Protestant Europeans, even though they’re ancestors kidnapped millions of Africans hundreds of years ago to use them as slaves in America. And they see non-Protestants and people with dark skin, as invaders and Un-American and people who’ve invaded their country. And believe they’re under attack by minorities even Caucasians who aren’t Protestant and Anglo, like Jews, Italians and Slavs and believe they have the right to kill these people.

Some people might say they’re isn’t any real definition of terrorism, that is something that you know when you see it, like pornography that you know it when you see it. Perhaps the only thing that terrorism and pornography have in common. But actually that is not true, because an act  of terrorism is the intentional destruction and murder of a mass group of people. Setting off a bomb in a public space knowing that if you’re bomb goes off it will hurt and probably kill a lot of people. We see that type of terrorism all the time in the Middle East. Especially in Israel, but now in Iraq and Syria as well. The Irish Republican Army, was an Irish-Nationalist terrorist group that believe in uniting North Ireland which is still part of Britain, with the Irish Republic in the South. And they’re murdered thousands if not millions of English non-nationalist Irish who oppose uniting both Ireland’s.

That is what the Ku Klux Klan is about except their terrorism is about bigotry. Racial, ethnic and religious hatred, of non-Anglo-Saxon Protestants. And like with ISIS and other so-called Islamic terrorist groups, they self-define their activities under  a religion which is Protestant-Christianity. Except like with ISIS and other Islamic terrorist groups, their terrorism has nothing to do with the religion they claim to represent. There’s nothing Christian about killing people simply because of their race, ethnicity or religion. That is why the FBI has essentially destroyed the KKK almost by themselves, at least their military wing. Because the KKK is responsible for the murders of thousands if not millions of African, Jewish and other Americans, who come from a different racial, ethnic and religious background as the KKK.

The KKK is the oldest as most successful terrorist organization in the United States as far as the number of murders and other acts of terrorism that they’re responsible for. And they’ve let to other European-American terrorist organizations like the Aryan Nation, Neo-Nazis and other Alt-Right groups. The Black Panthers, the Communist Party and other Far-Left groups have nothing on the KKK when it comes to hate, murder and terrorism. The KKK is responsible for more murders and terrorism than ISIS simply because the KKK has been around a lot longer. If ISIS is still in business a hundred years from now, that could change. And Americans need to know this if the Trump Administration is going to have any real connections with Alt-Right groups in the future.

When you think of the Republican Party generally you think of country club Republicans, people who tend to be very conservative when it comes to economic policy and believing in low taxes and low regulations, but tend to be moderate to tolerant on social issues, perhaps even neutral. And then there’s another faction of Republicans the Christian-Right. Anglo-Saxon Southern working class Protestants, who looks at politics especially social issues from their very conservative if not theocratic religious values. And there’s their still solid, but no longer dominant conservative-libertarian base that came to power in the GOP thanks to Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and others. But there’s another base in the GOP that use to be a solid part of the Democratic Party. The so-called Reagan Democrats that first voted overwhelmingly for Richard Nixon in 1968 and 72 and then later Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 84. European ethnic Catholics people of Eastern European, as well as Irish background, who tend to be Midwest and working class.

Reagan Democrats are now Trump Republicans. People who tend to be blue-collar, Catholics, as well as Protestants, who tend to have Anglo, as well as Irish and Slavic backgrounds. Who come from working class areas of the Southeast and Midwest, who are very conservative, but in a traditionalist and nationalistic and religious sense. (Not so much political) who came of age when their people (so to speak) were in charge in America. Where only needed a high school diploma earn a middle-income and live well. Where women weren’t expected to work. Where you stood out if you didn’t go to church every week. People who hang out at sports bars, bowling allies, drink beer and not wine. Who now live in a country where they’re becoming a minority if not are already there. And are seeing their wages and economic security decline in an era where education is the key to being successful in America. Not just a high school diploma and a little college perhaps at a community college, but a college degree and then re-trajing later in life in order to be successful.

It’s not just Trump Republicans, working class religious conservative Caucasians who’ve been left behind in the New America. But they’re the voters that Donald Trump represents. Whose been running on this theory that if he can dominate the Caucasian working class in America in the votes, he’ll win the presidency without having to appeal to anyone else. The polling and numbers don’t show that when you look at the fact that Donald Trump’s base is somewhere around 35-42% depending on the polls. But that is what he believes he needs and all he needs to be the next President of the United States. Essentially blue-collar Tea Party Republicans, who oppose free trade, immigration, internationalism, integration and even equal rights. The so-called Alt-Right in the Republican Party that is now the new term for Far-Right Nationalists. Who again believe there America is disappearing and there America is the 1940s, to be frank about it. When women and ethnic and racial minorities, were not prevalent in America.

Whatever you think of Donald Trump, he’s not a dumb man. He even has political skills and real sense of politics and what he can do and how to appeal to his own base. Which is by speaking their game even though he represents nothing as far as what this community represents in lifestyle and everything else, other than a similar complexion. But he’s getting away with it at least in the sense that he’s never lost this lost place in America, because they’ve been losing and have been falling behind for decades now as the New America has become prevalent and we’re now a very diverse country ethnically and racially and where higher education post-high school is the key to how well you’ll do in this country economically. The Lost America now wants that country back the country they grew up in, a country that overwhelmingly looks and thinks the way they do and they want their lifestyles back and those blue-collar jobs back that funded their lifestyles. And they see Donald Trump as their savior even as he goes down in a landslide to Hillary Clinton.
